Red Mist is a multi-platform 3D computer game with underlying Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques built into the game play. The game will be designed to be used by statutory youth support services, charities and schools working with anger management and behavioural issues. Red Mist’s unique selling point is Neurosky, a revolutionary piece of technology allowing the game to tap into player’s brainwaves and measure their emotional state. Gameplay can be affected by the user’s emotions, whilst at the same time creating key reporting around users. In order for players to succeed through the game’s immersive storyline and game play, users will need to manage negative emotions and stay calm under pressure, despite aggression or ill-treatment being directed towards them. In doing so, we can ensure that players experience ‘stealth’ CBT processes in an engaging and aspirational game.
With the support of funding from the Advantage Proof of Concept Fund from Warwick University, we are pleased to announce the completion of our Red Mist proof of concept study. This involved the creation of businesses cases, business plans, project management schedules, marketing plans, scenario creation, and a whole gallery of artwork linked to game scenarios. During this process we were kindly given time and guidance from Warrington Prison, Project Kool Down, Catch 22 and Manchester College who have all helped shape up the game concept and how and where it should be used.
Our next steps are to source funding to develop Red Mist into a playable game linked with NeuroSky technology. We have had a huge amount of interest both in funding and in those who would buy and use the game, so it wont be long until we can all take part in the positively emotional adventure AKA Red Mist.
